Who we are
Game Hangout - the website game-hangout.com and the Game Hangout app for Windows - is a private project by Timo Schafarik, Lionstraße 15, 95030 Hof, Germany ("we"). Contact: hello@game-hangout.com.
By using the website or the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them. What we do with your data is in the privacy policy.
1. Free, and as it is
The app and the website are free. We build them with care, but we cannot promise that they are free of errors, always available, or right for a particular purpose. Features can change, and services the app relies on - such as the relays, the Steam lookups or connecting accounts - can be paused or end.
2. How hangouts work, and what that means for you
- Your PC connects directly to your friends' PCs. People in a hangout can see your IP address. Only let people in you trust.
- A game server you host runs on your PC. You are responsible for it: whom you let in, what happens on it, the traffic it causes, and following the game's own license terms (EULA) - for example Minecraft's, which the app shows you before the first start.
- Mods come from other people (Steam Workshop, Modrinth). We do not check them. Install only what you trust.
- Worlds move between your friends' PCs. Keep a backup of any world that matters to you.
3. Your identity and connected accounts
Your identity in Game Hangout is a key on your PC. If it is lost, we cannot restore it.
Connect only accounts that are your own. Connecting somebody else's account, or making your app look like somebody else's, is not allowed. You can ask us at any time to remove a connection.
4. What is not allowed
- using the app or the website for anything illegal;
- attacking, overloading or probing the website, its functions, the relays, or other people's PCs, or sending automated requests to the website's functions other than through the app;
- getting around protections, such as rate limits or the signatures the app and the website check;
- harassing or deceiving other people, for example by pretending to be somebody else;
- sharing content you have no right to share.
If somebody uses the website's functions abusively, we may block their access to them.
5. Other services
Steam, Discord, Modrinth, Minecraft and the games themselves have their own terms, and those apply when you use them through the app. We are not affiliated with Valve, Discord, Microsoft, Mojang or the makers of the games.
6. Liability
Because the app and the website are free, we are liable only for intent and gross negligence. This does not limit our liability for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz), or for defects we fraudulently concealed.
7. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms when the app or the website changes. The date at the top says when they last changed; for an important change we also say so in the app or on our Discord.
8. Law
German law applies. If you use Game Hangout as a consumer, the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country you live in still protect you.
